The studied metamorphic rocks occur around the granitoid plutons in the southwest of Nehbandan. Field and petrographic investigations indicate that these rocks comprise two main groups: regional and contact . Primary minerals in the regional metamorphic rocks include andalusite, garnet, plagioclase, biotite, muscovite, quartz, tourmaline, calcite, clay minerals, and opaque minerals, exhibiting porphyroblastic, lepidoblastic, and granoblastic textures. The contact metamorphic rocks display a granular texture and are mainly composed of quartz, chlorite, muscovite, biotite, plagioclase, epidote, and opaque minerals.
Geochemical results reveal that these rocks are consistent with metapelites derived from fine-grained sedimentary sources. The relative enrichment of LILE and LREE indicates the evolution of these rocks in a subduction setting. High values of CIA and CIW indices suggest intense chemical weathering in the source environment, comparable to values observed in Archean shales. Additionally, high ICV values indicate immature sediments rich in non-clay minerals, deposited at an active continental margin.
