The Mozduran Formation of Jurassic age is widely distributed throughout the Kopeh-Dagh Basin. The investigated stratigraphic section is 190 m thick. Its lower boundary conformably and gradationally overlies the Chaman Bid Formation, whereas its upper boundary is unconformably overlain by the siliciclastic Shurijeh Formation. For this purpose, twenty samples were collected for geochemical analyses. Based on field observations, petrographic investigations, and geochemical data obtained from EDS and EPMA analyses, two main groups of dolomite minerals, including primary and secondary dolomites, were identified. The primary dolomite minerals mainly occur as very fine-crystalline dolomicrites with a mosaic texture, predominantly anhedral crystals, and crystal sizes ranging from 4 to 10 μm, indicating their formation within a tidal-flat environment. In contrast, the secondary dolomite minerals comprise dolomicrosparites with subhedral crystals measuring 10–20 μm and dolosparites consisting mainly of subhedral to euhedral crystals larger than 50 μm.
