Onyx Marbles are formed as a type of carbonate rock through the action of calcareous hot springs. The formation of Onyx marble in travertine springs occurs in autogenic and through chemical processes. These rocks differ from other marbles of metamorphic origin in terms of structure, texture and physicochemical characteristics. This article aims, first, to distinguish these two types of rocks terminologically and second, to investigate and explore the conditions of marble formation in travertine springs. In this research, the areas of Qorveh, Naqadeh, Burq and Azarshahr were studied to investigate the mentioned objectives.Determining the concentration of Rare Earth Elements (REE) in selected onyx marble samples confirms the effective role of these elements in creating coloration with specific color spectra. The results of these studies indicate atmospheric, metamorphic and seawater origins for the ore-forming fluids in the examined samples. The formation environment of the studied samples falls within the range of epithermal deposits.
