The studied Plioquaternary lavas are located in the northwestern part of Iran and in the Alborz-Azerbaijan zone. Based on geochemical studies, these volcanic units are basalt, basaltic andesite, trachybasalt, basalt-trachyandesite and trachyandesite. The mineralogical composition of the units includes the main minerals plagioclase, clinopyroxene, amphibole, olivine and minor minerals apatite, quartz and opac minerals. Clinopyroxenes are of the augite and diopside types and are alkaline and subalkaline in nature and are located in the igneous rocks. In the environment where clinopyroxenes are formed, oxygen fugacity is high and they are formed at low to medium pressures. The magnesium number of clinopyroxenes indicates their formation from primary magma. The mineralogical composition of plagioclases is andesine, bitonite, labradorite and oligoclase. The amphiboles in the studied areas are pargasite and schermakite and have alkaline-sub-alkaline and sub-alkaline nature. All olivines in the studied areas are chrysolite and iron-titanium oxides are magnetite and titanomagnetite.
